Karl Marx 20 Mark commemorative coin
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his death, the VEB (state-owned company) Mint Berlin minted this 20 mark commemorative coin. It was designed by Heinz Hoyer and Sneschana Russewa-Hoyer and was first issued on April 6, 1983. The picture side is adorned with a portrait of Marx and his signature. On the value side are his quote "The philosophers have only interpreted the world differently, but the point is to change it." as well as the state coat of arms of the GDR. Karl Marx 5 D-Mark commemorative coin
This 5 D-Mark commemorative coin was first issued on June 21, 1983 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his death. The picture side is adorned with a portrait of Marx. On the value side, the German federal eagle (national emblem of the Federal Republic) is shown in a slightly modified form. The quote "Truth as reality and power -" from Marx's Theses on Feuerbach" is engraved on the edge of the coin. The designs come from the medalist Erich Ott from Munich. The coin was minted by the Hamburg Mint (mint mark J). The coin is uncirculated and mounted on a high quality card with a coin holder.
